| LONG SUMMARY
When roommates play poker together, one rule should
always apply: Never bet against the stoner. When Bradley Bongload
(JOHNNIE OBERG, JR.) runs out of money and wants to raise the bet,
he wagers his chain-smoking roommates that they can't quit smoking.
Knowing that Bongload almost always loses, Mike (MATT KILO), Spence
(D.W. MILLER), and Craig (SCOTT SOBOL) all agree to the bet. It's
not until Bongload turns over his full house that it hits them:
If they smoke, they owe him a lot of money.
Quitting starts off well enough - Spence goes for
a run and finds out just how unhealthy he's become, and Mike makes
breakfast for everyone - but the conversation quickly turns to smoking
and reminiscing about the "great cigarettes" they've smoked.
Mike and Craig decide that they'd better stay in to avoid temptation;
there's no way theyr'e going to let Bongload take their money.
Soon after, however, things start getting much
worse. Each roommate begins to unravel in his own particular way
while Bongload goads and taunts them because he needs the money
their failure will bring. "Quitters" follows the three
roommates as they sink ever deeper into the depths of depression,
despair, and addiction in this new dark comedy from first-time writer/director
Andrew R. Powell. |
